Add More Colour to Your Kitchen for a Modern Look

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in your home. It is the place where you cook, dine and entertain, and you will no doubt spend a lot of time in this particular room. Many people want to upgrade their kitchen, but aren’t sure how to do so, and they may want to create a more modern look without too much hassle. One way you can do so is by adding colour, and this doesn’t require a whole renovation, just a few changes to your kitchen.

Replace your splashback

Your splashback is a focal point in your kitchen, so replacing it can make a big difference. All you need to do is install some new kitchen splashback tiles in a bold colour and you can completely change the look of your kitchen. Bold colours are a big trend in kitchens at the moment, so you can bring the room up to date.

Paint your kitchen

It’s easy to paint a room, especially a kitchen which won’t have much wall space, and so you can often re-paint your kitchen in one weekend.

When painting a kitchen, there are a few things to remember:

  • Use paint designed for a kitchen so that it’s damp and steam resistant
  • Carefully add masking tape around the edges of your cabinets and other fittings, so you don’t splash them with paint
  • Use a base coat for a smooth surface
  • Consider adding a top coat for extra protection and to get a gloss or matte finish

Painting is a fairly easy job and is inexpensive, but can easily add colour and bring your kitchen up to date.

Use colourful appliances

Appliances have traditionally been white or stainless steel, but if you want a modern look, consider choosing something colourful. From a pink fridge to a brightly coloured dishwasher, these appliances add a pop of colour and are easy to change over if you get bored.

Small appliances can also be colourful too. From kettles to toasters and microwaves, you can buy small appliances in a range of colours and they have a unique, modern touch.

Add new blinds

Windows that look a little bare can be made more colourful with the addition of some blinds. Blinds are a more modern alternative to curtains, so any time of blinds will make a room look more contemporary. Colourful blinds can make a room much more interesting and add colour to your space with minimal effort.

Kitchen trends have tended towards the neutral for many years, so lots of people have spaces that are quite grey or beige, which is starting to look dated. However, you can update and bring your kitchen into 2020 by adding some brighter colours, which is a big trend in interior design at the moment. There are many ways that you can add colour, depending on whether you have a small budget or want to spend a little and completely overhaul the space. Many of these projects don’t take much time, so you could have a different kitchen in just a few days.
