If you own any type of business, you are likely aware of the many different things that can go wrong and can end up costing you thousands of dollars – or worse – your business license. Luckily there are many different preventative measures you can take to avoid costly and dangerous mistakes such as leaks. Leaks of any type can be invisible and thus can go on for a long time without you even being aware, which is why testing for them is so important. Here are four types of leaks you should watch out for and test for on a regular basis.
Carbon Monoxide Leaks
One of the more common and well-known types of leaks, carbon monoxide leaks, can happen just about anywhere and can be deadly if not taken care of immediately. Though a gas leak such as this can really only be confirmed by a professional, there are signs you can look out for. These include physical symptoms such as headaches and dizziness, as well as something as obvious as the smell of gas.
These leaks can cause serious carbon monoxide poisoning, so if you suspect you may be dealing with one, it is best to get all humans and animals out of the building as soon as possible and get it tested right away.
Natural Gas Leaks
Though less dangerous than carbon monoxide, natural gas leaks are still very common and can cause serious damage to people and buildings if left unattended. Natural gas is extremely flammable and, at high enough levels, is fully capable of killing humans through suffocation.
Nitrogen Leaks
Commonly used on farms and other places where refrigeration is necessary, liquid nitrogen can cause oxygen levels to drop drastically when exposed to the air, becoming capable of killing both humans and animals. If you run the type of business where liquid nitrogen is present, the best way to prevent a nitrogen leak is to have your facility tested often.
Water Leaks
Water leaks may seem like they are not a big deal or can’t cause much harm, but this isn’t always the case, and they should be taken just as seriously as other types of leaks. If you notice low water pressure coming from faucets, water stains on walls, or any flooding – no matter how minimal – have a professional come and check for water leaks before they become a much bigger nightmare, and you end up having to close your business to do expensive repairs.
As long as you are aware and on the look out for warning signs and stay diligent and make sure to consistently test for all of the most dangerous types of leaks. Your business, as well as yourself and your employees, will be safe from the harm they can cause.
